Andrés Sosa-Loza (b.1996) is a Mexican-American artist living and working in Chicago, IL. The work of Andrés explores a tapestry of his upbringing, steeped in Latinidad, influences of religion and the spirit of a blue-collar household.

Andrés’ defining characteristic to his work is the integration of organic and found materials such as raw pigments, cigarette ash, and repurposed materials. The materials are storytellers, reflecting the resourceful and hands-on ethos instilled in him from a young age. Andrés makes connections to nostalgia and incorporates erasure, geometric abstraction and influencing expressionism to his current work. His process is an intuitive dance between personal narrative and material transformation, inviting viewers to connect with universal themes of identity, labor, and the enduring legacy of our environments.

As a decorated artist, with accolades and recognition received from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Events -and the Illinois Artist Council, Andrés prides his work inviting the viewer to relate and question in more profound thought of identity, culture, and belonging.
